Last week, many people from around the world joined us for our first webinar on the RainDrop™ Digital PCR System. For those of you who missed it, you can find an archived version in the events section of our website.
In this webinar, Chris Read, a Marketing Applications Specialist, discussed a number of the RainDrop System’s key features, including how it achieves high sensitivity without the need for standard curves as well as its capabilities to multiplex assays using a wide dynamic range of input DNA in a simple, contamination-free workflow. Chris also covered the basic principles of digital PCR, how the RainDrop Digital PCR System works, and the various applications best suited to RainDrop.
After the webinar we opened up the line to questions from the audience. Here are a few of them that came in:
What is the sample volume per droplet? 5pl
What range of sample input volumes can you run? As little as 25ul and as much as 50ul.
What is the cost per well? RainDrop provides the lowest cost per data point of all digital PCR systems. Per-well costs are approximately $30.
Is there any cross contamination between droplets, or merging at high temperatures due to surfactant degradation? No, the system’s unique closed-tube design ensures the highest quality by eliminating contamination or carryover.
How many colors can you detect? We can see 2 colors, but we can multiplex up to 10 targets.
How long does it take to generate droplets from 8 samples? Just 30 minutes.
How many samples can you run in a day? Up to 24.
How much DNA/sample do I need? How little can I load? It depends on your target genome. For human gDNA RainDrop will work with less than 66pg or as much as 6ug.
Is there any upfront sample prep needed? We recommend shearing genomic DNA to 3kb. Cell free DNA or FFPE samples do not require shearing.
Could you explain a bit more about the targets methylated DNA application? We are going to be posting app notes on our website shortly on methylation and multiplexing, so check back!
And last but not least, we were asked to differentiate ourselves from our competitors. Simply said, there is RainDrop and there is everyone else. We encourage you to find out for yourself. Contact us and we’d be happy to tell you more about the RainDrop System and how it can help you in your work.
